Business Problem: Words & Strings (W&S) is a non-profit organization that organizes poetry and arts events throughout the year in Qatar. The organizers rely on a number of different online services to organize their events, using services such as Eventbrite and TicketTailor as online ticket management systems, and form builders such as Google Forms to collect information about the artists performing at their events.

Why is that a problem? Despite being a non-profit, the organization incurs some costs for event management and organization. Their largest cost is for online event ticket management platforms (such as Eventbrite and TicketTailor). These platforms do have free tiers, but they do not cover the size of events W&S regularly organizes, with an average attendance of 200 audience members. This results in an approximate annual bill of 3,000 QR when managed through such platforms.

Solution: WordsandStrings.art is an event management platform designed to simplify and streamline the ticketing and performer signup process for nonprofit organizations.

Product Technical Specifications:

1. • Light and fast web app with user authentication, as a large number of event attendees are recurring members.
2. • NoSQL database to store event information, as every venue provider for events requests different information to be gathered about artists and the audience. NoSQL allows flexibility rather than following a rigid schema to allow for changes.
3. • Serverless deployment is ideal, as W&S only organizes events once every two months. The niche audience for W&S has a very low chance of causing excessive serverless function activity.
4. • AWS S3 bucket for image storage. Images such as event covers, performers' images, and any other media that require uploads.
